Today I am reviewing a liquid lipstick from the Balm, in the shade Charming!

My Experience : the Balm is a US based beauty firm which is known for making multi-tasking, superior quality beauty products that are great value for the quality they offer. They are best known for their superb highlighters, concealers, eyeshadow palettes and insanely gorgeous blushes but what makes them stand out the most are the names of their products!
They carry forward the same philosophy for their liquid lipsticks.
This entire line has been named so as to introduce you to an ‘ideal’ man called Matt and like him, these liquid lipsticks would be long lasting!! All the liquid lipsticks have been named after the attributes you would want in your ideal man – like Loyal, Charming, Committed, Adoring ! How cute is that?!
They come packaged in a plastic tubing with all product information mentioned on a transparent sticker. The tube is transparent too so you get to see the actual product. The cap is a matte silver with a screw-on mechanism. The outer cardboard box is equally interesting, with a vintage couple sipping on a shake!! Cute, cute cute!!!
These have a sponge-tip applicator, with is doe-foot shaped. It actually appears to pick up very little product, but trust me, little is all you need!
The formula of these liquid lipsticks is commendable & impressive. The product is richly pigmented and goes opaque in just one swipe. It applies smoothly and goes on a little wet at first, but dries down very quickly in about 15-20 seconds. So you have a tiny window to amend any mistakes or make adjustments but you have to work quickly.
The color pay off is very good on lips, one thin layer is enough to conceal pigmented lips.
Once it dries up after application, it does highlight the lines of the lips, but that’s a feature will all matte liquid lipsticks. At no point does it feel uncomfortable. It does not enhance the chapped/flaky bits of the lips, which is a big plus in my book.
The finish of these lipsticks are true matte. There would not be a hint of shine at all. Think MAC Retro matte lipsticks,but without the dryness.
The liquid lipstick has a faint fragrance of vanilla-mint as stated by the brand, but nothing overtly irritating. I could not smell or taste it, once it was on my lips.
The shade that i have is called Charming. It is one of those colors that everyone can wear. It work appropriate every day kind of mauve shade with strong brown undertones. I think it would suit all skin tones but medium to deep skin tones would absolutely LOVE it. Since the 90s are back in fashion, so it the brown/earthy nude kind of lip shades and this could be the one for you!
The longevity of the liquid lipstick is what blew me away!! The words ‘long lasting’ has been abused by the beauty industry for long, they say long lasting but they mean like may be 4-5 hours. This lipstick is what truly ‘long lasting’ means. This shade survived on my lips for a good 8-9 hours!! It stayed put through heavy meals of pasta & pau-bhaji & sizzlers & pastries and hot coffee!! I think it may well be able to survive a nuclear explosion!! It is truly the MOST long lasting product i have used till date, that says a lot! It didn’t crack or fade away in between, I did not have to touch up even once.It is truly waterproof & smudge resistant. And obviously it can be removed only with the help of a good oil-based makeup remover.
DUPES : I don’t have an exact shade like this in my vanity but 2 came close.First one is the L’oreal Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick In Montaigne Brick & second one is the Revlon Matte Balm lip crayon in Sultry. Neither are true dupes in shade or consistency but are close.
Over all, I highly recommend these lipsticks to anyone who is fond of long lasting lip products and true matte lips. I truly cannot think of anything bad to say about these, except that they are not easily available in India. If you can get your hands on them anyhow or order them online, I think you must! All the shades in this line are amazing and universally flattering. They generally are on good discount online, so go shop!
