Today’s review is about another exciting discovery, it’s a newly launched mask by Kiehl’s – Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque.

My Experience : Every time i find something that actually does what it claims, i get excited!!
Kiehl’s introduced nature inspired masques few months ago in US markets and I have trying to get my hands on them ever since. They launched 2 variants – Cranberry & Turmeric and Cilantro & Orange extract.
I chose this one I think mainly because of its turmeric content. I have sensitive skin which is prone to acne, and i frequently use turmeric anyways ( see my D.I.Y Health Drink : UN-Bloat Yourself! here )
So this mask (or masque as they call it!) comes packaged in a vibrant orange plastic jar with a white lid. I guess the orange is to emphasize the presence of turmeric. Its such a happy color that i instantly chose this one over the other mask which has green packaging! Who knew packaging makes so much difference! Thank God for the plastic packaging because i dropped the jar almost instantly after i purchased it! Luckily only the lid cracked, but rest all was intact. Its safe to say that the packaging is sturdy & travel- friendly. This jar flew from Kuala Lumpur to Delhi pretty comfortably!
The product details are mentioned very clearly on the jar in white lettering. Kiehl’s is known to have no nonsense, very ‘academic’ kind of fonts and names of their products. The long names of products can basically summarize the entire detail about the product!
If you read the ingredients closely, water is the first ingredient followed by kaolin (which is a type of clay used for skin treatments since centuries in India) and turmeric features 13th or 14th on the list while cranberry seed extract is 8th. So that’s an indication of how much of these ingredients are present in the actual product. To be fair, turmeric is a very potent herb, tiny quantities can do wonders.
When you open the jar, the first thing you notice is that it looks a lot like our very own humble Multani Mitti (fuller’s earth), and lots of cranberry seeds sprinkled in. However, this product doesn’t contain multani mitti to the best of my knowledge. What you see is the base of kaolin and silica in water mainly. It also contains Titanium Dioxide and i know some people can be allergic to it.
The product has a mild fragrance, to me its predominantly of the kaolin & cranberry seeds. It’s not too pleasing to me, but it’s completely bearable. My olfactory adaptation sets in quite fast!
The consistency of the product is of a typical clay mask, slightly on the lighter side.
Directions of use are clearly mentioned on the jar.You have to apply a thin but visible layer all over cleansed face, allow it to dry for 5-7 mins. While drying I could feel slight tingling or almost slight warming up on my face. It dries up pretty fast. Then massage your face in upwards & circular motions with wet fingers to let the cranberry seeds act as scrub. After that, rinse of with lukewarm water. Follow with toner & moisturizer.
I have been using this mask cum scrub since past 3 weeks as i was lucky enough to receive some samples from Kiehl’s India in the beginning of May. Soon after I purchased it in on a overseas trip as it had not been launched in India till then.
The results i have seen with this mask are unlike any other. I have used clay masks earlier, and I have used turmeric as part of DIY masks so I wasn’t expecting miracles out of this particular product. But i have been surprisingly delighted. I could instantaneously notice my skin to be very smooth & softer after ONE use. After 2 uses, i could see considerable brightening up of the face.
( NOTE: not whitening, but brightening. That means not fairer, but more radiant. I don’t understand why in India some people are obsessed with getting fairer ) . By the 3rd use, I could see facial like effects. My skin looked more relaxed and awake.
One can use it any time of the day but i prefer it as a bedtime ritual.
Over all, I think this is a genie in a bottle, a facial in a jar! You have to try out a sample to believe it. Ii is a little pricey but think of it this way, how much money do you spend on one facial? You would get several ‘facials’ in this jar for the price of one. And it’s especailly helpful for busy moms like me, who don’t have the time or the opportunities to go to a salon too often for facials. It also is completely safe for people with sensitive skin like mine, I almost always have acne when i get a facial done a salon so i have been avoiding it since past 6 months.
I would rate it a 5/5.
However, I have to mention here – I follow a strict skin care regime. Hence, this product gives enhanced results for me coupled with a good skin care regime.
