The Maybelline Velvet Matte Liquid Lipsticks have finally hit the shelves and here is a quick review on them.

My Experience : Winters and matte lips have some sort of charm to it that nothing else can replicate. However, the harsh dry winters play havoc on my lips and they tend to be dry and flaky. So personally i love these type of lipstick formulae that are semi-matte/velvet matte/moisture matte. And such a formulation in a liquid lipstick form and i am sold!
Maybelline Velvet Matte Lipsticks had finally hit the Indian markets (i don’t know why they launch their products much later here as compared to other parts of the world :/) and they had a grand launch at the recently concluded Amazon India Fashion Week at Bangalore.
These are packaged in a transparent plastic tube exactly the same as their glossy lip polishes. The caps have a black matte finish to them. The product fills into the transparent tube in the shape of a lipstick bullet and it looks fantastic!
The outer plastic wrapping has product information printed on it. The product code and names are mentioned at the bottom on a plastic sticker.
This lipstick comes with a rhomboid shaped sponge tip applicator,pretty much the same as the glossy lip polishes.
The product is quite pigmented but you may not get the exact shade on the lips as you see in the tube. I recommend swatching it in the store before buying. The color pay off on the lips is good. I would not recommend rubbing your lips together after application. That would make the lip product patchy. Applying in thin layers is the best way to get the most out of these.
Application of the product is a breeze. They glide on buttery smooth and even.
The lipstick applied glossy initially but after about 20 minutes, it settled to a satin finish. It did not make lips dry and did not settle into fine lines of the lips. However, if you have dry flakes like me, these will cling to it. Lip exfoliation is highly recommended before putting these on.
Longevity of these lip polishes is not too impressive, nor do they claim to be long lasting. For me, it lasted for about 2 to 3 hours after which it started fading away evenly. In my opinion, these lip polishes will not last a meal.
These are also not transfer proof. They do leave a stain behind
My only qualm about these lip polishes is that Maybelline has launched only 8 shades in india as of now. I find this a bit limiting as Maybelline is known to have the best color range in drugstore lipsticks.

All the shades launched are quite flattering to the Indian skintone. There is something for everyone. However, i was hoping for more berry tones for the fall/winter season.

Overall, Maybelline is known to deliver decent quality products in pocket friendly price ranges and that what they have done yet again! Velvet Mattes would be a fun addition to your kitty this festive season. If only we had a larger color range though.
